Director Yeon Sang-ho's latest zombie blockbuster "Colony" has surpassed NT$157 million at the Taiwan box office as of yesterday (the 7th) since opening on May 22, holding the top spot nationwide for three consecutive weeks. In South Korea, the film has also reigned as box office champion for 18 straight days, drawing more than 4.7 million admissions and accumulating over 50.1 billion won (source: KOFIC, as of June 7).

The film continues to break box office records around the world. In Malaysia, it had grossed 23.8 million ringgit (about NT$185 million) as of June 6, not only becoming the highest-grossing film in Malaysia this year (2026) but also surpassing the 21.5 million ringgit earned by "Train to Busan" to become the highest-grossing Korean film in Malaysian history.

During a stage greeting event in South Korea, the director and Koo Kyo-hwan dressed up as characters from "Men in Black," joking that they wanted to erase the memories of audiences who had already seen the film so they could watch it again and again. The pair also donned suits to recreate their look from their Cannes Film Festival appearance, greeting the audience in French.

Even more notably, Koo Kyo-hwan attended a post-screening talk in the guise of his character "Seo Young-cheol." When he appeared blindfolded and handcuffed, the audience was thrilled. But when it came time to remove the handcuffs, they wouldn't come off at first, leaving Koo momentarily flustered. The year's big-ticket action-zombie feature is now playing in theaters across Taiwan.
